Located in the Washington, D.C. area, Nritya Niketan was founded by Dr. Janaki Rangarajan in order to promote Bharatanatyam (a South Indian classical dance form) and Carnatic music in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
Janaki received her dance training from the renowned Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam
who is the leading proponent of the Bharatanrityam style of
Bharatanatyam.
Classes are held in Alexandria, Virginia.
A new session for children and teens is starting on Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 11AM-12PM. Minimum age is 5 years old and there must be a minimum enrollment of 5 students for the class to start.
A new session for adults is starting on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 7-8PM. Minimum enrollment of 5 students for the class to start. We will be holding information sessions for the adult class on Saturday, May 31 from 1-2PM and Sunday, June 22 from 1-2PM. Please let us know if you would like to attend one of the sessions.
We also offer private lessons.
The policy at Nritya Niketan is to hold a meeting with prospective students before enrolling them for a class. During the meeting, we will discuss our curriculum and our expectations from our students. After the meeting, if the student wishes to enroll in the class, we will make the necessary arrangements.
In conjunction with Kuchipudi Dance Academy, we are starting a monthly dance theory class in
Gaithersburg, Maryland from 7-8:30PM on Fridays for students of Indian
classical dance styles (such as Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi). The new
class is open to students of other dance schools in the Maryland, Virginia and DC area and commenced on April 11, 2008. Please contact us for more details.

A Carnatic music class (vocal) will be starting on Wednesday, August 6 from 6-7PM. Please contact us for more details.
A Vedic Heritage class will be starting on August 6, 2008 from 7-8PM. Some of the topics covered in the class will include basic Sanskrit, introduction to Hindu mythology and epics, and an overview of Indian culture. The class will be open to all ages. Please contact us for more details.
